Acupuncture that comes to you when you need it most.
Acupuncture is an ideal complementary treatment for anyone unable to leave their home; including palliative care patients, those in recovery after surgery, stroke or birth, the elderly, or the disabled. Acupuncture can easily be performed in the comfort of one's home to help decrease pain and stress, increase circulation and immune response, aid recovery, alleviate the side effects of medications or procedures, and help you feel better.
Acupressure, reflexology, reiki and therapeutic massage are wonderful substitutes for acupuncture, providing stress and pain relief without the use of needles.
When we integrate all aspects of our lives into our model of health, we become whole. Whole may not mean being in a state of perfect health, or complete freedom from disease; however it does mean that our entire being is working toward a state of healthy balance. The holistic approach to taking care of our health means that in addition to focusing on alleviating pain and symptoms, we broaden our awareness to include the wide range of factors that effect our health. This includes family, community, home, work, food, daily activities, and our mental/emotional state.
Tamsen Staniford, L.Ac.
Motivated by a life long passion for medicine, health and wellness, I chose to study Oriental Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, California. PCOM is well known for its rigorous training program emphasizing science, herbal medicine, and integrative care. My studies also focused on the Japanese Meridian style of acupuncture in the traditions of Ikeda Masakazu Sensei and Shuddo Denmei Sensei. During my training I completed three rotations at the San Diego Hospice and the Institute for Palliative Medicine’s Inpatient Care Center. After receiving a graduate degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine I returned to Northern California where I began my private practice and worked with Quan Yin Healing Arts Center providing community acupuncture to supportive housing residences. I choose to focus my continuing education on preventative medicine, palliative care, integrative medicine, and nutrition. I am also studying Japanese and finishing prerequisite courses to apply to nursing school.
Previously, I trained in massage therapy and bodywork at the National Holistic Institute. I am also a level 1 Reiki Practitioner.
You will find me enjoying days off hiking around Mt. Tamalpais with my family, visiting Baker Beach, reading and watching science fiction, or enjoying my back yard.
Appointments
Acupuncture treatments are generally $60, including the $5 travel fee. A sliding scale is available for home-bound patients experiencing financial hardship.
Reiki, acupressure and therapeutic massage treatments are $50, including the $5 travel fee.
Appointments last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the focus of treatment and the needs of the client. Treatments also vary depending on patient's mobility, personal preference and focus of treatment. A typical treatment begins with a diagnostic evaluation that includes palpation of the pulse, the abdomen and the limbs. Light and gentle needling is performed and the practitioner confirms the effectiveness of the points by re-checking the pulse and/or abdomen, and by patient feedback. The patient may or may not feel the needles being shallowly inserted or a sensation at or traveling from the point. Typical locations for needle placement include the forearms, lower legs, ears, and abdomen or back if possible.
Other modalities commonly used to stimulate points include gentle scraping, rubbing and acupressure with specialty tools, as well as massage. Treatments can easily be performed on a chair, couch, or wherever you are most comfortable.
